My Top 20 Must Have List When Traveling

I travel often as clients fly me to their cities. I travel from 1-hour flights to 20-hour flights (Vegas to Australia). I did lots of research on the best tips and strategies for flying as comfortably and stress-free as possible. Here are my top tips and protocols (in no order of importance):

  • For international travel, weight is important as a lot of airlines actually weight the luggages. Monos is #1 rated by Nik on this YouTube video.
  • Take advantage of having a personal bag as you can put most of what I mention below in it. This one goes under the seat and is easily accessible. It also easily attaches to the handle of your roller carryon luggage  so it’s easy to get around the airport. One YouTuber likes Teuen bag.

  • You can check in and choose your seat for most airlines 24-hours before your scheduled flight, so watch out for their email (if you haven’t chosen already). When choosing seats, remember that the very front row seats of the middle or back parts of the plane have baby-changing tables so that could be bothersome. There’s also lots of traffic going near the bathrooms, so avoid those seats if that’d bother you.

You can use Seatguru.com to check your exact plane and seats to see what they look like. Some people leave notes on there to see if there’s anything broken which matters if it’s a long flight.
  • If you travel a lot domestically (USA), Spirit, and some other airlines, have a ‘bidding’ option where you bid for the front big comfortable seats and they’re nice. But I much prefer the ‘Comfort’ option where you pay a bit extra so that the middle seat is blocked so you have no seat-neighbor!
  • Preload your movies/shows. You can pre-download shows/movies into the app so they’re available without internet. I do this for Prime, Netflix, and Youtube. Most other apps have it too.

Make your flight an event where you catch up on things you want to watch as this makes it something you can look forward to.

Make SURE you have noise cancelling earbuds or headphones. I’ve tried so many earbuds and Bose QC Ultra Earbuds is my favorite. The best headphones for noise cancelling are Bose, Sony and Apple’s AirPod Max (if you want to treat your earholes to luxury).

  • Portable Alcohol wipes – like this one, because the dirtiest place on a plane is not the toilet but the seat tray/desk, seatbelts and headrest! I wipe that stuff before touching any of that. And don’t put your stuff in that little basket behind the seat. People put gross things in there like used napkins, ew. And these places are seldom cleaned! I have those alcohol wipes everywhere, even my wallet.
  • Disposable Masks – I was not the type that wore masks in airports but I found myself always covering my airway if someone near coughs, closed space and all. Finally I said fuck it, and just wore a mask and it’s actually pretty awesome! Just don’t get the fancy ones that have a tight strap. This cheap disposable one does the trick. I prefer the disposable one because I just throw the one I used and have a fresh one all the time.

  • Ergogel Travel Seat Cushion – A seat cushion that folds into your personal bag. This is great for flights longer than a couple hours, for comfort.
  • Electronics accessory bag – so all your tech stuff and wires are in one place organized. I have this.
  • MagSafe Airplane Phone Holder – Everyone probably envies me when I pull this out. You just clamp this to the seat-table and stick your iPhone (with MagSafe) on there and you’ve got an eye-level awesome entertainment center from your iPhone. It can also clamp onto so many places, or with the table tray down or up. If you have an android phone I can’t help you.
  • Slim Portable Fast Charger – I use this one. It’s slim so it easily fits in the electronics bag (see below). It’s got 10,000mAh so it can charge your phone several times over as well as your other electronics.
  • Travel Pillow with neck support – like this one so you can tilt your neck and it’ll be supported. It is bulky though so I just wear it while walking around the airport. A good alternative from YouTubers that I haven’t tried yet is a strapped sleep mask, like the SeatSleeper, that’s portable and straps your head onto the seat while also being a sleep eye mask.
  • Air Tag – the Apple air tag makes sure you’re able to track your belongings. I put one in my wallet, carryon, my zip up scrunchie (for my own safety so my friend knows where I am at all times) and checkin bag especially, if I bring one. If you have an android phone I can’t help you.
  • Compression Packing Tubes – like this one, just roll up as many clothes as you can in there, zip it up, then zip it, then zip it up again so it compresses the clothes.
  • Water Bottle – I have a thin water bottle (This one) that goes into my personal bag (bottle compartment). I actually don’t drink that much water so I put diet soda in there. I hate that airports don’t serve Diet Pepsi, so I just get Diet Coke. When the refreshment cart comes around, I ask for a whole can of Diet Coke and they usually give it to me.
  • Xylitol Gum – I love Epic’s Xylitol Gum (juicy fruit flavor). My protocol for mouth health and mouth care system is Dr. Ellie’s Mouthcare System and I always, always, always bring the mouthwashes everywhere with me and xylitol gum (which I use after every meal). I’ll post more about the system in the future. Comment below if you want me to write about my mouth care protocol.
  • Thin Toiletry Bag Set – I like this one because it’s thin and expands with whatever you put in there. Has lots of space. Once you’re in your hotel, you can hang it on a rod and it has all your toiletries. And has a readily detachable clear-bag that’s TSA friendly for airport security if they check your liquids.
  • Sleep Sound Machine – I use the Yogasleep and just play it while I sleep in hotels. I also bring these earplugs, so I can sleep during any odd hours of the day.
  • Beach Towel Clips/Clothespins – Like this one, helpful if to attach things like if you’re out in the beach or to tie together the hotel curtains for less light coming in.

  • TSA-Approvied Travel Liquids – Just search that term on amazon and you’ll find a bunch of good options.
  • Body wipes – I used Dude Wipes as they’re large body wipes, fragrance free, and flushable! Essential for any personal bag!
